Parenting
We will run a 6 week 'Parenting Teenagers' Course on
Thursday evenings starting Thursday 16th September. If you are the
parent of a teenager or a nearly-teenager and would be interested
in attending this course, please contact Jeanette H or the church office
for more information, or to book a place.

The aim of these courses is to enable parents to improve skills, change
family power structures and develop more honest and respectful relationships
in their families. Our vision is to support, encourage and equip families
connected with the church and local community. We try to fulfil this vision
by making available courses which we think people will find helpful in their
daily lives. One of outcomes of the courses that we aim for is that those
that attend feel safe, valued and encouraged to make small changes that will
improve their self-esteem and their relationships with their families.
Most courses run for seven sessions and take place in a friendly, safe
environment and include coffee and chat, video and discussion. These courses
are usually run on church premises at various times during the year and
include a crèche when necessary. Mums AND Dads are welcome.
Our courses have enabled parents to carry out significant changes in their
parenting and we were delighted to hear of these changes and how greatly
they had been helped by attending the courses. One couple told us that
they hadn't been arguing while doing the course, so it was obviously
helping their marriage as well as their parenting a very worthwhile
bonus!

EVALUATION SHEET SUMMARY - SUMMER 2009
Here are a few comments from people who attended our
previous course...
"Again I have taken away a lot of
positive ideas to put into practise. It has backed up the 0-6 course
with lots more skills"
"Even though I have a child with
behaviour problems, I believe we have become closer from this course in
learning the skills needed, more so the encouragement from each other"
"All sessions helped and brought out
issues that were of use. The encouragement and listening sessions helped
me the most and has helped me become calmer and reasonable with the
children. All sessions had useful points."
"The overall course was excellent. The
encouragement of the leaders was excellent. I learnt a lot about how to
identify and deal with the difficult issues of being an 'untrained'
mother. Thank you very much."
"I loved the reflection at the end of
each session - thought provoking"
